Fat Girl Fit: My Journey to a 100lb Weight Loss Part One

“Damn, I’m stunning! Sweet like honey! Walk through looking like something!”

I’m a comfort eater. If I’m stressed, sad, depressed or bored, I eat. Anything heavy and greasy is, well, was the meal for me. This past year has been an emotional rollercoaster for me, and I ate my way through it. I didn’t cook, I ordered pizza every week and that was that. Now it shows.

In June I was prescribed Saxenda, a weight loss medication that suppresses my appetite and lessens my cravings for sweets. Since then I’ve lost 22lbs and worked my way out of depression. Two weeks ago, I made the decision to start working out on top of my medication and I haven’t felt this good in a long time. My motivation has skyrocketed. I accomplish everything on my to-do lists and then some. I’m still working on time-management, but we’ll get there.

I’ll always be a plus-size woman. Being curvy, warm, and filling out my clothes are a few of the things I enjoy in my world of womanhood. A healthier lifestyle, snatched waist, toned arms, thick thighs, and better fitting clothes are my fitness goals.

I haven’t reached a level of transparency that allows me to tell you my actual weight yet. I’ll let you know where I was when I get where I’m going. Until then, just know I’m working it off, getting things done and staying cute in the meantime. If you’re trying to make a change, I have a few beginner’s tips for you AND the cutest workout set that’ll make you run to the gym!

Take it One Day at a Time

Don’t overwhelm yourself. Your form may not be the same as the bodybuilder in the gym but you’re getting it done. If you’re busy and worried about food intake, meal prep a salad. Next week, try another healthy, easy meal.

No two days are the same. Some are busier than others and life throws major curveballs but if you take at least 30 minutes to take care of your health you’ll be ready for whatever. Don’t worry about next year’s results, enjoy how you feel right now.

Support

I know you can do it yourself. So, can I.  So, can she! When you put all of that confidence and drive together, you’ll be unstoppable, and you’ll always have someone to lean on. A few of my homegirls and I have a group chat where we send encouraging messages and ask for advice. We’re accountability partners on a mission to be snatched by 30 and beyond.

Live Your Life

By my lonesome. I took a 2-hour walk downtown and it was probably the most time I’ve spent outside in a while. Mind you I was on a mission, but I didn’t get as tired as I normally would have, and I enjoyed myself. It didn’t cross my mind that I was staying active until I checked my steps.

When You Look Good, You Feel Good!

“I don’t understand why people buy $40 pants to workout.  Just throw on something!” I was that girl. I’m still that girl to a certain extent. Will I spend $40 on a pair of leggings? If they come with a built-in calorie burner, maybe. Probably not! Do I want to look good while I sweat? Absolutely.

It took me a minute, but I found cute and affordable activewear for my plus-size ladies at Rainbow.  For this particular set, the leggings are true to size and have a great stretch. If you’re wearing a sweat vest or waist trainer, size up on the hoodie.  Order this entire set for under $20!
